The Darkness of Days

I remember you
with the brilliance
of Spring in full pride
watching you grow
on lanky stem
to awkward sway
of full bloom.

The scent of you
still echoes
in shadowed gardens
and tortures me
with its abundance.

I remember you
with the chill
of Winter’s bite
the ground where once you stood
still white and fallow
held in abeyance
by absent sun.

And all of nature joins me
in my mourning
wailful gales cry my tears
washing days to grey
as I scream a storm.

See too the trees implore
clawing at closed-eyed skies
for your return,
for a season,
and not the forever
it has become

and I am left
to wither
without.
