Destructive Tendencies

You make me want to break things,

swing a sledgehammer at walls
I built around myself,
shatter fear on the hard edges
of your laughter,
impale my demons
on your gaze
and crush my anxiety
beneath the heft of your love.

I’m compelled to carve your name
into my desk at work,
spraypaint buildings
with your initials and mine,
tattoo letters and numbers
into my skin
in that secret code
of seventeen year olds.

I’m driven to push the metal,
cross the centre-line
and lurch a heart-felt collision
with
no
seat-belt

just to crack open my chest
and set a thousand birds free.
