Admiration

Have you ever noticed the early morning fog?

How it hovers over the pond, dilly-dallying

Never daring to touch the glass

Instead it sways and swirls

In slow curvature

Like a lonely woman in a bar

Who’s had one too many drinks

Eyes closed in an open dream

Ears tuned to the song in her head

Dance lead by absent parties

Does the fog dream of the pond

And wish they were together

Or is she content to be so close

Skirting the object of her affection

Until dawn catches her unawares

Revealing her opalescence

(For Upalparna Dey, my Opal, because you inspire me)
